At present, the most energy-efficient heating equipment are air /water source heat pump and solar water heaters. The former mainly absorbs the heat from the ambient air to produce heat, but requires a small amount of electricity to drive the compressor, and the latter directly absorbs the heat from the sun to produce heat. No electricity is needed. So, which one is more energy-efficient compared to the two?
The energy savings of solar water heaters are closely related to the number of days in the sun. In 365 days a year, if the number of days in the sun is only about half, then the energy-saving effect of solar water heaters is twice that of electric water heaters. Because when there is no sun, solar water heaters can only be heated by electricity. The power consumption is very considerable. The energy efficiency ratio is far inferior to air energy.
Air source heat pump requires a small amount of electricity to drive the compressor, and mainly absorb heat in the air to produce heat. Although the ambient temperature has a definite impact on the energy efficiency, it does not depend on the sky like solar water heaters. Even in a snowy day of minus ten Celsius, air source heat pump also can be operated, as cold weather the energy saving effect is also about 2-3 times than electric water heaters. If at above 0 Celsius, it consumes 1KW of electricity and can absorb more than 4 times heating capacity from the air. Therefore, compared with solar energy, air source is more economical, smarter and more worry-free.
Therefore, from the perspective of annual average energy efficiency, air source heat pump is preferable to solar water heaters. However, there are some places with high demand for hot water that uses both solar and air source devices are more efficient. Solar energy is used when there is sun, and air source is used when there is no sun as during night, so as to maximize energy-saving. Of course, solar energy plus air energy is only suitable for places with high demand for heating. Otherwise the high investment costs will be beyond budget.
